The SOA Consortium, HL7 and OMG announces the conference "SOA in Health Care: Realizing Quality of Care, Business Value, and Delivery on IT's Promise." Focused on the intersection between service-oriented architecture (the technology industry’s latest “silver bullet”) and healthcare quality, this event will bring together community members to share their experiences, lessons-learned, and best-practices in an open forum of discussion. The event has three tracks:

  • An “Executive Summit” of health industry leaders sharing SOA plans, case-studies, experiences, benefits, and pain points
  • A "Business Track" highlighting the business rationale, impacts, and governance of SOA on health care and health quality
  • A "Technical Track" focused on realizing success with SOA implementation in health care

A wide cross-section of the health industry are participating, including healthcare providers, payers, public health organizations, and pharmaceutical companies,. Speaker committments have also been made from the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Canada Health Infoway (the national e-Health body within Canada), and the UK National Programme for Health IT.

The focus of the conference is to convey real-world experiences—positive and negative—to help attendees benefit from lessons learnt and real challenges faced. In brief, what works and what doesn’t. We have intentionally integrated the themes of SOA and health quality as we want the event to appeal primarily to a health- IT savvy audience. This event is very much focused on healthcare’s challenges and SOA’s role in meeting them.
